Stunt Performer Spotlight: Lukas Stoiber

Updated: Jul 19, 2020

Lukas Stoiber is a 20 year old Stunt-Actor with his heart set on action films since early childhood. Lukas is a 4th degree black belt in taekwondo, but his stunt abilities expand far beyond the dojo. Aside from kicking and Bo-Staff (For which he is the 2011 national champion) Lukas specializes in falls and wrecks ranging from floor level to 40 foot high falls. He has experience in hand to hand fight choreography, parkour and tricking, and his timing and reactions make him a valuable member of any project he gets to do stunts on.

What inspired you to become a stunt person? My desire for action on the big screen was inspired by someone that many other stunt professionals got their inspiration from; Jackie Chan. When I saw Jackie Chan in RUSH HOUR as a little 7 year old kid, I knew I had to do that with my life. I went on to get more inspiration from Universal Studios’ WaterWorld and Herb Perez on the show “WMAC Masters” as “Olympus”. Little did I know someone else on that show would fall into my life later.

What is your greatest skill as a stunt performer, is there a story behind it? I started Taekwondo classes in 2007 at Gold Medal Martial Arts with 1992 Olympic gold Medalist Herb Perez. For 11 years I trained under Master Perez until I moved to Los Angeles at the age of 18. Those 11 years (And the years that followed) I acquired my specialty; kicking and falling. I’ve trained at a variety of places, but I got my professional start with Master Mike Chat (who I later learned also starred in WMAC masters with my former sensei).

What is the best part about being a stunt performer? I get to live my dream in a very unique way. Not everyone can say they get beat up for a living, or jump between buildings or get yanked on wires, but the combination of how unique it is plus the fact that it’s been my dream since childhood makes this the best job I could possibly imagine, and despite cuts, bruises and general pain, I wouldn’t give it up for the world.

What advice would you give other stunt people? My advice for other stunt performers, especially newer ones, is to get connections. If you’re transferring from Acting to Stunts it may be a little different than you expect because there aren’t too many resources out there compared to what Actors have. The majority of our business goes off of who we know and how much they trust us, so get out there and make as many friends as you can. You can find Lukas in a variety of places (Given the COVID-19 quarantine is over). From Durmstrang at Universal Studios, to training at JAM or jumping out of moving cars in Topanga Valley, Lukas is always trying to get better and acquire new skills.
