Destiny Ekwueme is a professional SAG-AFTRA stunt performer and actress. With a background in cheerleading and gymnastics. She has trained with Bay Area Stunts in falls, go-downs, tumbles and utility fights.
What inspired you to become a stunt person?
I was inspired to become a stunt professional after an incident that left my hand and leg injured. I was developing a plan for myself to stay active and take full advantage of my health and body.
While attending physical therapy I was introduced to Tony Vella and Bay Area Stunts [https://www.bayareastunts.com]. Stunts then became a huge part of that plan.
What is your greatest skill as a stunt performer, is there a story behind it?
My training in cheerleading, gymnastics and dance is my greatest skill as a stunt performer. All these things are heavily reliant on coordination, choreography and trusting all of your training when it’s time to perform.
These skills have been tremendously useful as a stunt performer.
What advice would you give other stunt people?
The advice I would give is that every stunt performer is different. We all have our own skills and qualities, so there is no need to try to fit into a box that doesn’t suit you.
Find what you love and what you do best, pair that with training and there will always be a place for you in stunts.
Anything else you would like to tell the community about?
I would love take a moment to share Bay Area Stunts with their very skilled and talented performers and coordinators.
