Stunt Performer Spotlight: Brendan O'Meara

Updated: Jul 2, 2020

Tell about yourself, Brendan!

I’m originally from Des Moines, Iowa. I studied Psychology and Exercise Science at Creighton University in Omaha Nebraska.

Growing up I played the typical Midwest sports: baseball, basketball, and football but my main focus was always Taekwondo. I trained/competed in Olympic style Taekwondo and later Sport Karate. I also spent much time training in Wushu, Gymnastics, Muay Thai, Jujitsu, and Boxing.

What inspired you to become a stunt person?

I was always obsessed with movies and martial arts. Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee were my heroes. In college I started getting into acting and later took film school classes in LA.

After learning more about fighting for film and being inspired by a lot of former martial arts competitors, I turned my interest completely towards stunts.

What is your greatest skill as a stunt performer, is there a story behind it?

I feel most confident with fight choreography and falls. Being able to act on camera I find is incredibly important as well.

Overall though, having a good work ethic and being professional is probably the best skill to have. It is a job and others are counting on you to perform.

What is the best part about being a stunt performer?

The best part is the experience of meeting people and creating new content. Seeing the final product. So far the nicest people I’ve met on set are usually the more successful ones. Good to learn from those individuals.

What advice would you give other stunt people?

It’s hard for me to give advice because I’m more in need of some, ha! But really just trying to connect with as many people in the industry as possible I find is incredibly important.

Constantly training with others is a good way to gain knowledge and stay ready for opportunities.
