Tell about yourself, Aline!
I was born in Belgium, lived several years in NYC and I’m now based in L.A. I started my career as a musician, writing music, singing and playing guitar and keyboard with several rock bands.
I also studied drama and acted in several plays at a Belgian school. I competitively played in a volleyball team for 7 years. I also did a lot of rock climbing and mountaineering in the French and Italian Alps, Belgium and the US. I was training to become a professional rock climber and a mountain guide.
I also trained at TaeKwonDo, handball, heptathlon and swimming. After moving to NYC, I started making music as a solo artist, as well as working in Film/TV.
What inspired you to become a stunt person?
As I was on set of a TV show as an extra, I met a stuntman and we started talking about the sports we both did. He encouraged me to start working as a stunt performer and helped me getting my first stunt job.
I then started hustling and training in fight for film, wire work, burns, tactical and firearms, stunt driving, horseback ridding, motorcycle, more martial arts, gymnastics, ratchet, rappelling… and started getting more and more work.
I worked on The Blacklist, Blue Bloods, Fear the Walking Dead, Blindspot, Gotham, The Good Fight, Castle Rock, and others, and doubled Nicole Kidman, Bridget Moynahan, Mozhan Marno, Christine Baranski, Jenna Elfman, Christine Lahti, Stephanie Corneliussen, Sydney Lemmon, Roma Maffia, and others.
What is the best part about being a stunt performer?
What I love about stunt work is that it encourages me to constantly learn new things and getting better and better. It’s also a great team work and stunt people are really amazing and inspiring.
You feel like you’re part of a tight community where we're all looking out for each other. And it’s awesome to see the final edit of a film or show and know that you were part of making it.
What advice would you give other stunt people?
To someone who wants to get into stunts, I would say know yourself and what your strengths and weaknesses are, keep training, go train where stunt performers are training, take classes with stunt coordinators and performers to get better and make yourself known.
Be sincere about your abilities on your resume. Shoot some footage to show your abilities. Getting into SAG-AFTRA in the US is really helpful to get better jobs. Keep training so you’re ready every day to get called on set and get the shot done in one take.
Always be grateful. Also take some acting classes with casting directors. If you’re a foreigner looking to work in the US, know that getting visas and green card can be really hard and expensive, so take care of that right away if you can, so it doesn’t slow you down or prevent you from getting opportunities.
