Feature film production exec and director Phil Rawlins died in Newhall, Calif. on May 28. He was 79.


Rawlins began his film career as a stuntman, doubling for Clint Eastwood in “Rawhide” as well as for such actors as Randolph Scott, Robert Ryan and Don Murray, the latter in “Bus Stop,” which featured Marilyn Monroe. He also rode shotgun on the stagecoach in “Gunsmoke.”


After 10 years as a stuntman, he moved into directing, becoming a DGA second assistant director on “Fury,” and then worked as a first assistant director at Warner Bros.


His credits included “Hawaiian Eye,” “Cheyenne,” “Bronco” and “77 Sunset Strip.” For two seasons he worked on “F Troop” and then went on to direct “Adam 12” and “High Chaparral.”
