Stunt Memorial: Morgan, Robert “Bob” (RIP)

Robert "Bob" Morgan

Born: 1916 Passed: 1999

Bob Morgan was born on November 14, 1916 in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, USA as Robert Drew Morgan. He is known for his work on La spada e la croce (1958), The Big Country (1958) and The Boss (1956). He was married to Yvonne De Carlo. He died on February 22, 1999 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA.

Morgan was very severely injured and nearly died while performing a stunt during the shooting of How the West Was Won (1962). During the filming of a gunfight that takes place on a moving railroad flatcar loaded with logs, one of the chains that held the logs snapped, and Morgan was crushed by the falling timber and lost a leg. It took him five years to recover from his injuries. His wife, actress Yvonne De Carlo, put her career on hold in order to nurse him back to health.

Brother of Charlie Morgan, Dick Morgan, Duke Morgan. Two sons, with Yvonne De Carlo: Bob Morgan and Michael Morgan. He also has a daughter, Bari Morgan, from a previous marriage. Brother of singer-comedienne Jaye P. Morgan.

Morgan is one of the warrior-slaves who shout “I’m Spartacus!” in the famous scene in Spartacus (1960), though he is often mistaken for actor George Kennedy, whom he resembles closely. Kennedy had no association with the film.
