John Bernecker

John Bernecker was born on March 2, 1984 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA as John Hagen Bernecker. He is known for his work on Black Panther (2018), The 5th Wave (2016) and Looper (2012). He died on July 13, 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.


Bernecker suffered massive head injuries from a 30' fall to a concrete floor on the set of The Walking Dead (2010) and later died at Atlanta Medical Center. The Walking Dead: Mercy (2017) was dedicated to his memory. Game Night (2018) was also dedicated to his memory.

John H. Bernecker was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 2, 1984 and on July 12, 2017, made his journey to Heaven's gates. He was only 33 years old. He was the beloved only son of Susan Sherlock Bernecker of Metairie. He is survived by his devoted grandmother, Joyce Bellande Sherlock; his uncles, Tommy Sherlock and Jerry Sherlock; his aunts, Peggy Sherlock Tobin and Holly Sherlock Rose; and his loving cousins, Robert Thompson, Jessica Thompson Palma, and Mallory Thompson. John is also survived by his father, Hans H. Bernecker; his grandfather, Thomas A. Sherlock; as well as countless cousins, family and friends. John attended St. Catherine of Siena, St. Francis Xavier, Holy Cross High School and graduated from Montverde Academy.


He attended the University of New Orleans and Southeastern University in Hammond. John's extraordinary athletic ability and charismatic personality were a perfect match for his dream job as a stunt performer in movies and television. His success was quick. As a stuntman and coordinator, he performed in over 90 feature films and television shows. John was a member of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television Actors. He owned Prodigy Stunts LLC, which developed into his stunt family. John mentored and encouraged many up and coming stuntmen and women to follow their dreams. His loving nature, constant smile, and wonderful sense of humor made him a friend to everyone he met and worked with. He was kind-hearted, generous and humble. He loved life and everyone loved John. He was a loving person that helped all who came in his path. John is the bright light that showed us all the way to live - one fantastic human being.
